There are numerous different treatments available to apply to our Dogs if they begin to suffer from fleas and ticks. One of the best known of these is frontline medicine. I have been personally using it to treat my three Dogs and also my Cat for a long time now. Just recently however I decided to make a thorough investigation of this topical treatment. Why? Well, I have alway been concerned about adding chemicals to my pets bodies, so I thought it was about time I found out exactly what I was treating my pets with. I have spent an age looking at all aspects of Frontline to ensure it is both safe and effective, but also to discover how exactly it works. Are There Alternatives To Frontline Medicine? Although, after lots of research, I did finally find a source of discount Frontline, I was still very interested to see if there was an alternative, not just to Frontline by to the other chemical based alternatives such as Advantix. There are quite a surprising number of alternatives that I found described. Most of these are based around the use of essential oils, such as lavender and eucalyptus. The authors stated that using these oils as a treatment against ticks and fleas was an alternative to more chemical based applications. The problem, and there was a large one, is that nowhere did anybody actually state that they worked. There are plenty of these alternatives listed but not even the authors actually gave any hint that they had used them effectively. Not surprisingly I am not convinced. My problem is that I live in a mountainous and heavily wooded region and I can't take the risk of my Dogs getting infested with ticks and fleas. It is a serious problem and without frontline medicine I run too great a risk to my pets. Is It Safe? Surprisingly, or maybe not, it seems to be a very safe and effective treatment. Frontline flea and tick treatment has shown little to no serious side effects in pets. The effects it has on pets in a negative manner are mostly little more than a slight rash around where it has been applied. Of course, as with all medicines, there will always be side effects for a small number. This is the same with humans as with pets. There is no medication that has not caused side effects in at least a small number of those who have used it. What is good news is that there is very little chance of any serious side effects from treating Dogs with frontline flea medication or tick treatment. How Does It Work? Frontline is a topical treatment deigned to eradicate ticks and fleas from your pets and to keep them parasite free for at least a month. The active ingredients are S-methoprene, which will kill flea eggs and larvae. It is very effecitve against Dogs Ticks including the brown dog tick, the American dog tick, the deer tick and lone star tick Frontline for Dogs also contains fipronil. This is an insecticide and a slow-acting poison. It effects the nervous system of both fleas and ticks. Combined these two chemicals will very efectively eradicate ticks and fleas on your Dog and keep them away. It is very effective and never needs to be applied more than once a month. Conclusion If you have any concerns about using chemical based solutions on your Dogs then do some research as I have done. You will be pleasantly surprised at the results to be found. In a chemical age it is at least worthwhile to put your own mind at ease by knowing your are not harming your Dogs. The benefits of using Frontline Dog medicine far outweigh the slight risk associated with the use of any medicine, be it for humans or pets.
